The beautiful location of Sirmione has left substantial signs of each historical period and, till these days, has given to archaeologists and historians, items for new discoveries and studies. The oldest traces of human presence are dating back to the Bronze Age. Stilts were discovered in the lake in the nineteenth century, from Salò on Lake Garda and particularly around the area of Maraschina (Municipality of Peschiera) in 1971 to Galeazzi harbour (Municipality of Sirmione) and the area of San Francesco (Municipality of Desenzano del Garda) in 1976.
