SIRMIONE

The beautiful location of Sirmione has left substantial signs of each historical period and, till these days, has given to archaeologists and historians, items for new discoveries and studies. The oldest traces of human presence are dating back to the Bronze Age. Stilts were discovered in the lake in the nineteenth century, from Salò on Lake Garda and particularly around the area of Maraschina (Municipality of Peschiera) in 1971 to Galeazzi harbour (Municipality of Sirmione) and the area of San Francesco (Municipality of Desenzano del Garda) in 1976.

  • - Maria Callas palace, built in Piazza Carducci in the late eighteenth century, today home to significant exhibitions.
  • - The castle of Sirmione, which still retains the charm of the original building, located in scenic spot on the lake.
  • - The church of Santa Maria and its cloister.
  • - The church of St. Peter built in Roman style.
